A Home for Generations: A Newly Completed Waterfront Residence in Fairfield

A timeless waterfront residence designed to celebrate a lifetime of art, collections, and memories while adapting to the future.

Located along the waterfront in Fairfield, Connecticut, this newly completed custom residence was designed as a lasting home for a couple entering a new chapter of life—one that honors their shared history while creating space for future generations to gather.

The design is centered around adaptability, with a three-story plan organized around a sculptural central staircase that wraps around an integrated elevator. This thoughtful arrangement allows the home to evolve alongside its owners, providing accessibility and flexibility throughout every stage of life. The upper level expands the home’s ability to host family and guests, featuring additional bedrooms and a dedicated bunk room designed for future generations.

A separate bonus space above the garage creates a dramatic gathering environment with a double-height cathedral ceiling, offering a place for larger family celebrations. When not in use for larger gatherings, pocket doors allow the home to transition into more intimate everyday spaces, focusing life around the kitchen, living room, and outdoor dining areas overlooking the water.

Throughout the residence, seamless glass railings and carefully positioned openings preserve uninterrupted views of the surrounding waterfront landscape. Architecture, lighting, and interior architecture were intentionally designed to play a supporting role—creating a refined framework for the couple’s lifetime collection of art, furniture, and treasured objects.

Rather than competing with the pieces that define the homeowners’ story, the home serves as a backdrop for them. Through thoughtful integration of materials, lighting, and spatial composition, this waterfront residence becomes an heirloom home designed to preserve memories, celebrate collections, and welcome generations to come.
