Designing for Wellness: CRS Completes a Serene Retreat in Easton, CT

We’re proud to announce the completion of our latest architectural project — a thoughtfully designed wellness center nestled in the woods of Easton, Connecticut.

This project marks a significant milestone for Christian Rae Studio: an immersive space dedicated entirely to wellness, connection, and restoration. From concept to completion, the design centered around one core question — how can architecture actively support mental, emotional, and physical well-being?

A Home for Wellness, Rooted in Nature

Surrounded by the quiet beauty of Easton’s woodlands, the wellness center is tucked seamlessly into its natural landscape. A palette of organic materials — rich woods, natural stone pavers, and textured finishes — grounds the space in calm and warmth. Large, strategically placed windows invite light and greenery in throughout the day, blurring the lines between indoors and out, and reinforcing the therapeutic relationship between nature and well-being.

More Than a Space — A Daily Ritual

Designed as an extension of the home, the center features a full spectrum of wellness-focused amenities:

  • Indoor pool

  • Infrared sauna

  • Jacuzzi spa

  • Indoor gym & movement studio

  • Pickleball court

Each zone encourages both physical vitality and mental clarity. Whether it's a quiet swim, a restorative sauna session, or the energizing rhythm of a morning match, this center was designed to promote holistic health.

Accessibility & Connection at the Core

The project is fully ADA-compliant, ensuring that every part of the space is accessible and inclusive. A central breezeway connector links the wellness center to the main residence — a symbolic and functional gesture that removes barriers to wellness, encouraging daily use and a stronger relationship with the body and mind.

The breezeway is more than a corridor — it’s a physical invitation. It dissolves the divide between everyday living and self-care, and reminds us that wellness shouldn’t be something we reach for occasionally — it should be seamlessly integrated into our daily lives.

Designing for Mental Health

At CRS, we believe that architecture is a tool for healing. Spaces shape how we feel, how we move, and how we connect with others and ourselves. With this project, our team set out to prove that good design isn’t just aesthetic — it’s essential to well-being.

Natural light, movement, accessibility, and the sensory richness of honest materials are not just luxuries; they are powerful contributors to mental health. This wellness center embodies that philosophy — creating space for presence, breath, and balance.
